Sekhukhune’s Shaune Moghaila in Court After Deadly Car Crash
Sekhukhune United player, Shaune Mogaila, is set to appear in court today, Friday 1 November, after allegedly being involved in a car accident that claimed the life of a minor.
Reports indicate that Mogaila was driving his BMW through Tembisa, Gauteng, during the early hours of Wednesday morning, 30 October, when his vehicle collided with a Hyundai carrying a woman and her two young children.
One of the children, a nine-year-old girl, was declared dead on the scene by emergency services, while the other vehicle occupants were transported to Tembisa Tertiary Hospital with serious injuries.
As for Mogaila, who sustained minor injuries, he allegedly fled on foot after the crash occurred. He abandoned his damaged car, in which alcohol and illegal substances were purportedly found.
Later that day, the 29-year-old winger handed himself over to the Rabie Ridge Police Station, where he was officially charged with culpable homicide and reckless, negligent driving.
Mogaila is scheduled to make his first appearance today in Tembisa Magistrate Court, where he is expected to apply for bail.
Sekhukhune have since extended their condolences to the family of the deceased. For now, they are awaiting further developments from the court before deciding on the next steps regarding Mogaila’s status within the team.
